Complex Awning Installation in Paddington
Modern contemporary construction in buildings with extensive use of concrete is popular and the use of marble and other ceramic cladding can result in a most elegant, not to say expensive, appearance. This smooth uncluttered look is attractive and creates a certain modern sophisticated ambience which is desired by many designers and architects particularly in central, commercial districts in our cities today.
Unfortunately, this can present a problem when the tenant of the building realises that, to carry out their business or to reduce solar gain from large un-shaded windows, there is no possible fixing for awnings without compromising this extremely expensive cladding. However, by choosing their awning supplier/installer carefully, and establishing that they have the skills and expertise to overcome these issues there is no reason why they cannot have their awnings without fear of damaging expensive cladding or render.
In this installation at the Chotto Matte restaurant in London’s Paddington district our engineers were tasked with designing and fabricating special steel tubular spacers which were carefully inserted into the cladding thereby permitting secure fixing of the Greenwich awning arm brackets through the cladding and into solid concrete without compromising the fixing security of the awnings or damaging the expensive cladding.
The five Greenwich® retractable awnings which have been so skilfully installed here use lightweight, yet robust, aluminium; powder coated in our own plant to give a long lasting bright finish. The Greenwich® retractable awning features a sealed internal motor operated by the touch of a remote button or, even, a response to the prevailing weather conditions. Small details, such as the end finials on the Greenwich awning can be specified in a number of materials and styles in brass, bronze or powder coated to match the arms or a weather box, if specified.
