A Curved Shopfront Challenge for this Marlesbury® Awning Installation
By their retractable nature, awnings are not normally considered suitable for curved surfaces; however, at Deans, we welcome such challenges. At Allpress’s new Espresso bar in Cowcross Street, Clerkenwell, the client asked us to install café-style awnings over the pavement table area. The historic nature of Cowcross St, so named because of the proximity to Smithfield Market, meant that a suitably appropriate awning design was required.
The crank-operated Marlesbury® awning with its powder-coated steel side arms and encased front profile was deemed the perfect solution. Almost as an afterthought, the client asked whether an awning could also be fitted to the corner elevation to complete the aesthetic.
This proved a challenge for our designers, but with some clever thinking, special brackets were drawn up and the laser cut in our London factory. Once the brackets were powder-coated to match the grey/brown awning covers, the impossible became possible
The finishing touch to the awnings was the subtle application of an Allpress logo applied to the weighted valances, using our RAGS® digital graphics system.
The Marlesbury Sash Awning is a classic design that fits seamlessly within a window recess, complementing Georgian and Victorian architecture.
