Traditional awnings for Commercial applications

Deans Blinds are the original manufacture of the Victorian-style canopy that today we call the Deans Shop Awning. Back in 1894, Deans Blinds pioneered the idea of commercial awnings for shops and pubs in the High Street. Through quality and craftsmanship, our hard-earned reputation for excellence is stronger than ever. Today, Deans Blinds are the awning supplier of choice for many major commercial businesses, like UK-wide retail chains, shops & stores, restaurants, hotels and pubs. Every custom-built commercial awning is a totally bespoke project and we can handle all stages, including planning, design, manufacture and installation.

When choosing your  commercial traditional awnings there are a number things to look out for and to consider. Firstly, authenticity is important if you want to be assured you are buying and awning which is true to the design of the Victorian era and, having been born in the time if Queen Victoria, Deans are best placed to ensure their awnings follow the patterns laid down at the time. A major feature to look for in your Victorian awnings the sloped top board with an integral routed drip channel at the front. The reason for the sloping top board is for water runoff and many awning installers do not incorporate the hard to make feature which is essential to prevent pooling and possible consequential water ingress.

Whilst on the subject of timber our joinery department use only hardwood suppliers and all raw timber is sourced through official licensed distributors  which is why can carry the PEFC, (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and FSC( Forest Stewardship Council ) accreditation badges.

The next thing to consider when making your traditional Victorian awning purchase is the provenance of the awning: by this we mean has it been manufactured by your supplier or is it just made up from a kit of parts put together haphazardly without due regard for integrity of manufacture or supply? Deans traditional awnings, or shop blinds, are constructed in their entirety in our London based factory. From the cutting and preparation of timber, through the creation of the metal parts, including all the bracketry right up to the final varnish or painting to the timberwork.  It is also worth mentioning the finish to our steel and iron work which is powder coated to a high impact finish right here in our own powder coating plant.

Whether you call it a “Victorian awning” or a “traditional shop blind” you can be assured the end product from Deans will be the real deal and provide “Quality Without Question”.
