The Deans RIB® Canopy – A Dutch Blind for the 21st Century
Dutch Blinds have been a popular choice since the 19th Century, providing maximum internal shade at a modest cost. Later, in the UK, the possibilities for using this style of canopy for promotional purposes were noted. Since WW2, and increasingly in the 1970’s and ‘80’s, they became a feature of every high street; frequently branded with corporate messages of increasingly imaginative style by major FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) manufacturers.
These canopies were typically lightweight aluminium, assembled with plastic or nylon components, prone to damage in adverse weather and requiring frequent replacement.

Some discerning clients, who appreciated both the shade benefits and promotional opportunities of this type of canopy, said they want a product with these benefits but of higher quality, both in appearance and longevity.
The result of our research and experimentation was the RIB® canopy. An all-aluminium, powder-coated for resilience, system with no plastic parts to break. Permanently welded joints and a fabric cover stapled directly to the frame for zero maintenance.
The shape of the RIB® is dictated only by our customers’ imagination, and long widths, curved building facias, approach porticos, or even staircases can be accommodated.
Branding to the RIB® canopy is applied using the Digital RAGS® branding process and, where standard shades or aesthetics are not available, the Edition® bespoke covers may be specified.
