Deans Play Their Part in the Regeneration of Whitechapel Road, Tower Hamlets
Revitalising Whitechapel Road plays a key part in Tower Hamlets Whitechapel Vision Master Plan to regenerate this neglected part of London. The project supports the town centre by making Whitechapel Road easier for pedestrian movement as part of a major public realm improvement scheme, including the enhancement of the street market.
A key element in this regeneration has been the shopfronts of retail businesses, and a requirement for historical accuracy has meant that Deans Blinds, with 130 years of history in London, were chosen to design and install bespoke recessed traditional Victorian awnings to all 28 of these shops.
All the retractable awnings were to be of the same colour, with branding confined to the street number on the valance so that flexibility of tenure was possible. The awnings themselves are recessed into the shopfront facia, a task requiring close liaison between client, designer and main contractor.
The project was overseen by our Team of contract co-ordinators who ensured the links between the client, the shopkeepers and other interested parties, including planning and Health and Safety authorities, were monitored throughout the duration of the rejuvenation programme.
At Deans Blinds, we understand the importance of creating visuals to show how your awning will enhance your establishment’s frontage. That’s why we offer 3D visual mock-ups of your project.
