Traditional Deans shop blinds and Markilux 990 awnings have been installed here at the Greene King Brewmaster pub site in Cranborne Street, Central London and they demonstrate how modern and traditional awning systems can be combined effectively on one site. The traditional shop blinds have been installed on the street elevation where they compliment the historical frontage and the Markilux 990 awnings present a smart image on the pedestrianised elevation where customers can enjoy a drink out of doors. The Deans shop blinds have been constructed from harvested hard woods which are then painted with water based paints to match the appropriate colour using environmentally safe water based long lasting paint finishes. The Markilux 990 awnings are powder coated for aesthetics and resistance to weathering and are operated via a simple crank mechanism. Markilux 990 awnings are an ideal solution where intermediate fixings are hard to find as the brackets are located at each end of the awning.
This pub was first licensed in 1857 as the Swiss Stores and then renamed Scotch Stores, and rebuilt as part of Leicester Square Underground station in the 1930s. In 2015 the pub was substantially renovated by our client Greene King in and a completely different environment was created. The main bar was moved, and the first floor is now a restaurant, and some casual bar seating, with brewing as the main theme. There’s a coppery look and feel to the pub and it now offers craft beers and a guest or seasonal ale, as well as three Greene King own beers. There is also an entrance into St Martin’s Court with tables and chairs. Children are welcome in the dining area and first floor family area.
The famous London Hippodrome was once sited on Cranbourn Street but in 1957 it was converted into the Talk of the Town, a combined theatre and restaurant. After the Talk of the Town closed in 1982. It is now the Hippodrome Casino which opened in July 2012, the UK’s largest casino and entertainment venue, and currently home to Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike Live.
