Back in the 19th century, when Deans started 120 years ago, the Victorian commercial awning or traditional shop blind, also referred to as a box lot, was the only type of commercial blind available. The Victorian shop blind was a perfect product for the variable British weather and is still the only sunblind that may be confidently used in all but the most severe weather conditions. Manufactured in our own London factory by expert craftsmen; in the same manner it was in Victorian times 120 years ago.
This product is often copied but only Deans can supply the genuine article. Deans still craft the wooden Victorian awning boxes in traditional style in their Wandsworth traditional carpentry shop and they receive a finish comprising Each awning is constructed from the finest European Redwood timbers from registered harvested sources and receive a primer, followed by an undercoat and appropriate coats of hand applied high grade paint to give them that real "Victorian" look..
Our timber for the Victorian awnings and blinds comes from managed sources and only the most suitable grades are used. Special orders are taken for timber in specific woods eg oak if required.
Black iron awning arms are formed by hand in the Deans London workshop, to follow the contours of the building, and these link the Victorian blind to the wall via cast iron sockets called "Canons". The rollers contains steel springs of immense strength.
Victorian awnings to original designs
Having been here when Queen Victoria reigned, Deans is the only blind and awnings manufacturier and installation company that is still in business in London who can provide an authentic Victorian or Edwardian awning or blind to complete the finishing touch to a serious restoration project on shop, restaurant or even a special private house.
