Renovating and repairing awnings is not something all blinds companies have either the skills or the will to do. However this is a valuable service which we provide at Deans to all our customers. Repairing awnings is a cost effective way of preserving your existing awning and, in this case, the traditional blind laths were very old and, rather than supply complete new awnings, we were able to replace the traditional blind laths with new hardwood units. The covers have also been replaced with a traditional block striped fabric.
The site at which we undertook this renovation work is for Firmdale Hotels at The Covent Garden Hotel which is situated in the heart of the theatre district and is just a short walk to the Royal Opera House, Soho and within easy reach of the city’s business centre. It is surrounded by some of London’s best restaurants and bars, vibrant cafes and most exciting theatre, nightlife and shopping.
Street entertainment at Covent Garden was noted in Samuel Pepys’s diary in May 1662, when he recorded the first mention of a Punch and Judy show in Britain. Impromptu performances of song and swimming were given by local celebrity William Cussans in the eighteenth century. Covent Garden is licensed for street entertainment, and performers audition for timetabled slots in a number of venues around the market, including the North Hall, West Piazza, and South Hall Courtyard.
